Choices of treatment models that I offer in my practice include:
Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT). This therapy aims to solve problems concerning dysfunctional emotions, behaviors and cognitions through a goal-oriented, systematic procedure in the present. CBT is effective for the treatment of a variety of problems, including mood, anxiety, personality disorders. Sessions range from 10-12.
Trauma Focused Therapy is a type of cognitive behavioral therapy used to treat patients who suffer from trauma, (either sexual, domestic violence or otherwise.) This approach is used to help people suffering from clinical post-traumatic stress return to a normal state of functioning after a traumatic event. A secure and stable environment is provided that enables the patient to disclose the details of the trauma and at the same time cognitive theories of treatment are applied. The patient is shown his/her distorted perceptions and is given the tools to redesign those attributes relating to the trauma. Sessions range from 12 to 16.
Narrative Therapy is a form of psychotherapy using narrative to rewrite the patient's history. By focusing on problems' effects on people's lives rather than on problems as inside or part of people, distance is created. This externalization of a problem makes it easier to investigate and evaluate the problem's influences. This type of therapy is helpful for those who experience symptoms of depression. Once the patient has learned to externalize his/her problem and gain appropriate community support to help the patient prevent relapse of his/her problem, treatment can be terminated.
Psychodynamic Therapy analyzes and studies human thought process and response patterns. In this type of therapy, patients learn to link parts of their past to present interactions with others. Further, they learn to correct destructive patterns that may prevent them from engaging in healthy intimate relationships as well as social relationships. This model of therapy is a more long term form of treatment.
Solution Focused Therapy is a treatment that focuses on what clients want to achieve through therapy rather than on the problem(s) that made them seek help. The approach does not focus on the past, but instead, focuses on the present and future. Once the problem has been resolved, the treatment can be terminated.
Family Therapy/Couples Therapy is a form of counseling which specializes in treating family relationships. Marriage and Family Therapists can work with every combination of family relationship (whole families, couples, or parents with children) to assist a family to function in more productive ways. Once the family is functioning appropriately, treatment can be terminated.
Therapy models can be delivered to you in different ways:
Indivdual Therapy: This is a face to face session with the patient and the therapist.
Family Therapy: This is a face to face session with as many family members as needed to address the issues and the therapist.
Couples Therapy: This is a face to face session with the couple and the therapist.
Group Therapy: This session includes the therapist and several group members who are struggling with the same type of issues.
Phone Therapy: A therapy session is provided to an individual by the therapist over the phone.
Internet Therapy: A therapy session is provided to an individual by the therapist via internet.
